Martell honored

Sons of the American Legion Squadron 27 of Bessemer honored Joe Martell, fourth from left, who served as Honor Guard commander for more than 65 years, on July 10 in Bessemer. Upon his return from World War II, Martell organized the combined American Legion-VFW Honor Guard for Bessemer and Bessemer Township. Making the presentation is Dave Paynter, adjutant and SAL member. Supporters included, from left: Dave Bracket, Francis Tannheimer, Jim Callovi, Martell, Gary Backman, Bob Gierl, Paynter and new honor guard commander Irv Mattson.
