HURLEY, Wis. — Eva Saari, 92, of Hurley, died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, in Hurley.
She was born Oct. 1, 1920, in Gile, daughter of the late Edward and Felemin (Gamache) Brunelle. Eva attended Gile, Carey and Hurley schools.
She was married to Paul Saari on June 22, 1940, at the Finnish Lutheran Church by the late Rev. Hervi. Paul preceded her in death on May 31, 1998.
She enjoyed knitting, sewing and cooking. She especially enjoyed polka dancing. Eva and her late husband Paul were crowned “Price and Princess” of the Polka Club of America. She also enjoyed traveling to Texas with her husband for the winters.
Eva is survived by seven daughters, Darlene Severson, of Madison, Paulette Saari, of Hurley, Connie Aho, of Hurley, Gerri (Wayne) Reynolds, of Mercer, Susie (Lee) Leinon, of Gile, Cindy (Mark) Seguin, of Wales, Mich., and Cheryl (Dennis) Saari, of Ewen; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives survive.
Besides her parents and husband, Eva was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carol, on June 25, 1941; a son-in-law, Phil Aho; brothers, Henry, Edward, Frederick and Ector; and a sister, Mabel Chovan.
Cremation will take place at the Range Crematory in Hurley.
Private family memorial services will be held at a later date.
Range Funeral Service and Crematory and the Ketola-Burla Funeral Home of Hurley and Ironwood, Mich., are assisting the family.
