DECATUR, Ill. — Marcia Ann Reardon, 43, of Decatur, passed away at 12:31 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at the Indiana University Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, Indianapolis.
Marcia was born July 9, 1970, in Ironwood, Mich., the daughter of George W. and Kathryn Marie (Gorrilla) Reardon. She was a 1989 graduate from MacArthur High School. She graduated in 1993 from Illinois College in Jacksonville, obtaining her Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. While attending Illinois College, Marcia was a member of the Gamma Delta Literary Society.
She went on to work in Chicago in her field with youth developmental services and assisted with providing housing and shelter services for disadvantaged youth.
She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. Marcia was a very kind and gentle soul with a loving and generous heart who always thought of others.
Surviving are her parents, George and Kathy Reardon, of Decatur; brothers, Marc A. Reardon and his wife Becky, of Decatur, and Shawn P. Reardon and his wife Sara, of Sherman; nephew, Connor Reardon, of Decatur; nieces, Caroline Reardon and Nora Reardon, both of Sherman; godparents, Thomas Gorrilla, of Minneapolis, and Patrice Gorrilla, of St. Paul, Minn .; and her special aunt, Dolores (Reardon) Byrns, of Germantown, Wis.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to: Dr. Rafat Abonour of Indiana University School of Medicine, for his loving care and being with Marcia at the end; Dr. David A. Williams of Children’s Hospital Boston, for his efforts and guidance in treating Marcia; the nurses in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in Indiana University Hospital; and Marcia’s donor, Lisa Fluke, of Statesville, N.C., for giving Marcia 14 more years that so many have cherished.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 2160 N. Edward St., Decatur.
Interment will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday evening at Dawson and Wikoff North Chapel, 4020 N. Water St., Decatur.
