Michael Wayne Turkal

IRONWOOD, Mich. — Michael Wayne Turkal, of Wakefield, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, in Ironwood. Michael was a resident of Keenagers in Wakefield.

He was born March 22, 1937, at home in Bessemer, to the late John and Rose Turkal. He was the youngest of seven children.

He was also preceded in death by his wife Delores.

Michael was a graduate of the A.D. Johnston High School class of 1955 in Bessemer. He served in the United States Air Force from Feb. 7, 1957, until Feb. 1, 1960. He was an avid karaoke fan.

Michael is survived by his nephew and caregiver, John L. (Mary) Turkal, nephew, Steven (Barbara) Turkal, niece, Christine (Joseph) Dutmer, niece, Sue (Mike) Furgeson, nephew, Jeffrey (Mary) Turkal, and niece, Nancy (Al) Bryl. He had numerous great-, great-great- and great-great-great- nephews and nieces. He was especially fond of his great-niece, Jennifer (Steve) Asmus, and her grandchildren, Ava and Carter Asmus and Carson Davis.

Michael’s family especially wishes to thank the staff of Keenagers for the loving and wonderful care given to Michael. Also, Caring Caregivers for their assistance in Michael’s care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 6, at the St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer at 11 a.m. The Rev. Benjamin Hasse will be the celebrant.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.

Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 27 and the VFW Post 3673 combined Honor Guard.

A luncheon will follow at the church hall.

All remembrances should be given to Keenagers or St. Sebastian Catholic Church.

Range Funeral Service and the Frick-Zielinski Funeral Home of Bessemer are in charge of arrangements.
