Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
ASHLAND, Wis. — The Gogebic Community College men’s and women’s cross country team competed in the Lumberjack Classic at Northland College Saturday.
The men’s team tied for third with Northland College after the University of Minnesota Duluth and St. Scholastica. The Gogebic men’s team was lead by Stephen Reynolds in a time of 31:26 on the 8-kilometer course, followed by Karl Szyszkoski in 32:57, Seth Mares in 33:01, Dalton Bressette in 34:00 and Broden Foytik in 36:21.
The women’s team was led by Breanna Maxinoski in 34:30 for the 6K course, followed by Stephanie Barnabo in 35:00, Adeline Kariainen in 35:14 and Lindsey Josephson in 37:40.
“They all ran very well,” Gogebic coach Will Andresen said. “For the women, this was their second run at the 6K distance and they are already showing strong improvement. For the men, this was their first attempt at the longer 8K collegiate distance, a big step up from the high school 5K. While it’s a steep learning curve, they still performed real well for this early in the season.”
The team travels to Houghton on Saturday to compete at Michigan Tech University.
