IRONWOOD — Ironwood swept Dollar Bay and Wakefield-Marenisco in Tuesday’s triangular at the John Krznarich Gym.
The Devils beat Dollar Bay 25-16, 25-14 and W-M 25-22, 25-20. The Cardinals beat the Bays 25-7, 25-21.
Ironwood’s Katie Erickson tallied nine aces and 17 assists against Dollar Bay. Mariah Beaudette had six kills, Jessica Gering five kills and Emily DiGiorgio four.
Erickson had six aces and 32 assists against W-M. Lacey Rimkus totaled four aces. Beaudette had 13 kills and DiGiorgio had 11.
For W-M, Miranda Sibley had nine kills and six digs on the night. Cora Zorich had 16 digs. Kassidee Yon had 18 assists and Hallee Yon totaled 10 digs.
Summer Curtis had three kills and three aces. Lauren Grace had 10 digs, seven blocks and two kills.
Dollar Bay played Ironwood and then W-M, which hadn’t played yet.
“We’re a team that sometimes likes to come out a little cold and then get into it,” W-M coach Jessica Novascone said. “They came out ready to play against Dollar Bay. We won the first set 25-9. I was really happy about that. Everybody was on their toes on defense.”
The Cardinals stayed in the games until the end with Ironwood, led by Grace’s blocking of Ironwood’s big hitters.
“They have a few really great powerful hitters,” Novascone said. “Our strategy was to come right back with them with our offense because they wouldn’t have as good an opportunity to set up their front row.”
Ironwood (6-0) hosts Bessemer for an Indianhead Conference match Thursday at 7:15 p.m. W-M (2-3) hosts Butternut Thursday. That’s also an Indianhead Conference East Division game.
