INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Robert J. Scholar, 82, Marion, died at 2:14 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, in the Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.
He was born April 29, 1931, in Ramsay, Mich., to the late Frederic and Bessie (Cilek) Scholar.
He married Martha Jane Baker on June 2, 1956. She survives.
Robert was a graduate of A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer, Mich., and attended the Michigan College of Mining and Technology.
Robert was a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired from the Federal Aviation Agency. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Marion, the Van Buren American Legion and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was the Faithful Treasurer. He was a past member of Phi Delta Kappa and a former board member of Meals on Wheels and the Elks.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Jane Scholar, Marion; daughter, Susan (Scott) Morrow, Marion; son, Paul (Patti) Scholar, Greeley, Colo .; brothers, James Scholar, Ramsay, Eric Scholar, Aptos, Calif., and Dennis Scholar, Asheville, N.C .; grandchildren, Cassidy Scholar, Fairbanks, Alaska, Charles Scholar, Redmond, Ore., Harrison Scholar, Greeley, Andrew Morrow, Marion, and Lauren Morrow, Marion; stepgrandchildren, Phillip (Stacey) Sjoberg, Mandan, N.D., and Andrew Sjoberg, Greeley; great-grandchild, Jonathan Sjoberg, Mandan; and cat, Coco.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Frederic and Bessie Scholar; and sister, Ruth Scholar.
Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 1, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Marion, with the Rev. Richard Weisenberger officiating.
Burial was in the Laketon Cemetery in Laketon.
