MARSHFIELD, Wis. — David D. Janov, 63, of Manitowish Waters and formerly of Hurley, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
He was born Nov. 1, 1949, in Ironwood, Mich., son of the late Charles and Anna (Lukasiewicz) Janov, attended Hurley schools and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1967. He entered the U.S. Air Force on Feb. 7, 1969, spending six years overseas during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant on May 9, 1975.
Following his discharge, David attended Gogebic Community College for two years and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry and soils from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He began his working career with his late brother-in-law, Don Pohjola, in D & D Tree Service of Ironwood, and then managed Janov’s Rentals and Western Auto in Ironwood, as well as numerous other local enterprises. He enjoyed music and fishing, and especially relaxing in his recliner watching movies with his Shih Tzus, Sonny and Cher.
David was married to the former Carolyn Kolson of Ironwood. She survives.
Also surviving are a brother, Chuck Janov, Ironwood; sister, Pat Pohjola, Minneapolis; four sisters-in-law, Joanne Burgess, Wheeling, Ill., Marianne (Jeff) Drake, Grand Blanc, Mich., Florence Kolson, Manitowish Waters, and Dawn Janov, Georgetown, Colo .; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Out of respect for David’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
Private family services and interment will take place at a later date.
