IRONWOOD - Fourth and fifth grade students from Northwoods Christian Academy of Hurley recently learned about money management and banking skills during a trip to Wells Fargo Bank in Ironwood.
Tina Abrolat, customer sales and service representative, presented the "Hands-on Banking" program to students. The children learned about savings accounts, how to write a check and balance a checkbook, and the value of responsible credit.
"This is an excellent, hands-on, interactive and fun program," teacher Lucy Davis said. Each student received a certificate of completion after the program.
The pupils are now applying what they learned in their classroom. Students earn tokens for their school work, which can be transferred into money through their parents' cooperation, a news release said.
"They divide their earnings between savings, spending and charitable contributions," Davis said. "The kids are now responsible to maintain and balance their own checkbooks and savings accounts throughout the school year."
