Jill Baker, right, poses with a new entrance sign donated by the Skaja family to Miners Memorial Heritage Park, accepted by Friends of MMHP President Monie Shackleford, left, Saturday in Ironwood. The sign was donated in memory of Baker's father, George D. Skaja, a former miner at the White Pine Mine who passed away last summer. The sign will be installed at the entrance of the Miners Trail at Lorensen Baseball Field on Ayer Street in Ironwood. The Skaja family also donated a bench in George's memory that was recently installed overlooking the Pabst Pond along the Miners Trail. The Friends of MMHP groom the 2.6-mile Miners Trail for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing through the winter. The trail is also open for walking during snow-free months. A city bow hunt takes place in the area of the trail through Sunday, Dec. 15; however, hunters are not allowed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
