Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
HURLEY - Hundreds of toys were dropped off Tuesday at the Iron County Human Services Department to help families during the holiday season.
On Saturday, fire departments from throughout the county collected toys, monetary donations, clothing, gift cards and toiletries for local kids.
The drive is an annual event, and the items not only help kids during Christmas, but left-over items are used throughout the year.
In situations where families are displaced because of fires, natural disasters or kids are removed from the home, clothing, toys and other items are needed.
"Elf" Diane Schmidtke, of the Iron County Human Services Department, thanked the community, fire departments and Iron County Credit Unions in Hurley and Mercer for donating, delivering and being drop-off points for the event.
