EWEN-TROUT CREEK School students, from left, River Nelson, Havanna NeSmith, Dylan King and Zach Livingston, pick out snacks before seeing "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" Monday at Cloverland Cinemas in Ironwood. Fifty-nine seventh through ninth grade students made the field trip to watch the film based on J.R.R. Tolkien's novel "The Hobbit" after studying it in English classes taught by Nancy Gatta. "The parents' club and administration are really supportive" of the trip, Gatta said. "We've been lucky. Cindy Rouse, the theater owner, has also been really nice." It marks the second year the group journeyed from Ewen to see the movie, with plans in the works to come see the final "Hobbit" installment after its December 2014 release.
