Gerald W. Minkin

TAMPA, Fla. - Gerald W. Minkin, 91, of New Port Richey, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, in Tampa.

Gerald was born in Ironwood, Mich., the son of the late Alex and Mayme (Berlin) Minkin.

Gerald proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific theater. Gerald was of Lutheran faith and enjoyed attending the former First Lutheran Church of New Port Richey. There he served on many committees and councils over the years and he was especially proud to be part of the church choir.

He enjoyed participating in his ancestral heritage as a member of the Finnish American Club of New Port Richey and was an active member for over 30 years. Gerald also enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing and tinkering with his woodworking and horticulture projects.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Minkin (Maki); his brother, Quentin Minkin; great-granddaughter, Josephine Hoven; and by his parents.

Survivors include his children, Brenda Hoven (Minkin) and Brian (Erin) Minkin; grandchildren, Eric Hoven, Rachel Hoven and Brett Hoven; great-grandchildren Vincent Van Winkle, Colin Hoven and Levi Hoven; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration honoring Gerald's life will be held at a later date. Family and friends will be notified of the details.
