Mercer Board Members attend State Education Convention

Mercer School Board president Kelly Kohegyi, from left, Superintendent Erik Torkelson, and board treasurer Deanna Pierpont and board clerk Denise Thompson recently attended the 93rd State Education Convention in Milwaukee. Keynote speakers for the event were Gov. Scott Walker, New York Times best-selling author and host of the History Channel's Brad Meltzer, and Stacey Bess, author and advocate for the educational rights of impoverished children. Hundreds of breakout sessions were held on topics such as financially sustainable breakfast programs, the relationship between school board and superintendent, revenue limits, bullying, and school law, policy and communication issues.
