IRONWOOD, Mich. - Helen V. Maki, 94, of East Vaughn Street, Ironwood, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, in Ironwood.
She was born Aug. 22, 1919, in Negaunee, daughter of the late Richard and Aini (Aho) Maki. Helen attended the Ramsay Grade School and graduated from the A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer with the class of 1937. In Marquette, she was trained as a beautician and was employed in Ironwood. She was also employed at PeerLess Laundry.
Helen loved puzzles, reading and dancing. She especially loved to fish. She was a member of the Aurora Club and St. Paul Lutheran Church.
On Sept. 1, 1939, she was married to Arvo J. Maki at Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood by the Rev. Hervi. Arvo preceded her in death in June 1982.
She is survived by a son, Ronald (Colette), of Kennewick, Wash., and a daughter, Joyce (Joe) Lampart, of Ironwood; grandchildren, Ronette (Kent) Williams, Richard (Alyson) Maki, Ryan Maki, Cari Carlenius, Brian (Sara) Carlenius, Michael (Sheila) Puisto, Joseph Lampart Jr. and John (Kimberly) Lampart; a stepgranddaughter, Tami (Jamie) Chiapuzio; great-grandchildren, Ryan (Kristine) Williams, Brock (Devin) Williams, Jason (Amy) Williams, Ashlyn Maki, Richelle Maki, Johnna Carlenius, Kirren Carlenius, Luke Carlenius, Jordyn Puisto and Zachary Puisto; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Kayla Palmeter and Noel Chiapuzio; and two great-great-grandsons, Ryker Williams and David Williams. Also surviving is a son-in-law, Don Carlenius.
Besides her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by a son, Richard; a daughter, Karen Carlenius; and a sister, Ruth Bursch.
Cremation will take place at the Range Crematory in Hurley, Wis.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Inurnment will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
Range Funeral Service and Crematory and the Ketola-Burla Funeral Home of Ironwood are in charge of arrangements.
