GOOD SAMARITAN Counseling Center, 113 South Curry St., prides itself in giving back to the community more than it recieves.
IRONWOOD - Good Samaritan Counseling Centers of the Western UP have released their annual report to the public, according to a press release.
In 2013, they provided 1589 hours of counseling, and 672 hours of group meetings and classes to people in Gogebic County and Iron County, according to the press release.
In Ironwood, Dan Borth, Billie Jo Hellen, Nina Katie, and Jim Van Doren provide services along with Jessica Leinon Novascone and Harry Swanton.
Housed in the rectory at St. Paul's Church at 113 Curry St., GSC secured the following donations during the year:
° $10,500 housing from St. Pauls and Roy Polich Law Office
° $886 cash contributions
° $3,600 Samaritan Institute's donations
° $57,050 value of professional time donated
° $36,000 value of administrative and professional time donated
° $27,400 value of other volunteer and donated staff time
for a total value of $135,4436. Staff provided people with over $87,000 to ensure that everyone seeking services in 2013 received help, according to the press release.
Services provide assistance including marriage and family counseling; help for youth and children; drug and alcohol out-patient treatment; support and education; service to men who have committed domestic violence and support for their families; support for grief, loss, and trauma issues; and assistance with employment adjustment problems.
Samaritan Centers accept almost all insurance and has contracts to provide service through th ecourt system, Michigan Department of Human Services, Employee Assistance Programs, Gogebic Community College, and state and federal prisoner release programs, according to the press release.
