IRONWOOD, Mich. - Lorraine Rajala Lehto Hastings, 81, of Ironwood, died March 4, 2014, at Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Community in Ironwood, surrounded by her family.
She was born May 2, 1932, in Ironwood, to Henry and Edith Kaiku Rajala. She attended Roosevelt and Luther L. Wright schools in Ironwood.
Lorraine worked at Simpson Electric Company in Mercer, Wis., Josephson's Nursing Home in Ironwood, and Kmart in Ironwood until retiring.
She married Wallace John Lehto in April 1950 and with him had 11 children.
She then married Charles E. Hastings in March 1975.
Lorraine had the most beautiful smile and was loved not only by her family, but everyone who met her. She loved her family and opened her doors to everyone. She loved her knitting and handwork. She will truly be missed by many.
Surviving are children Gail (Larry) Choronzy, Joy (Hannu) Venetjoki, Debra (John) Blank, Gary (Fern) Lehto, Randy (Clovia) Lehto, Darlene (KJ Pollitt) Gray, Sharon (Comelo) Switzer, Todd Lehto, Diane (George) Goerig and Joanne (Scott) Carlson; grandchildren, Keith, Kurt, Michael, Christina, Elizabeth, Greg, Sarah, Jade, Stephen, Jennifer, Shannon, Jessica, Marc, Megan, Michelle, Rebecca, Casey and Marissa; 28 great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Anderson and Linda (Stan) Kallaak; sister-in-law, Mary Beth (Jim) Merritt; brother, Dennis (Marjetta) Rajala; and brother-in-law, Van Dudley.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Wallace John Lehto and Charles E. Hastings; an infant son, Michael John Lehto; parents, Henry and Edith Rajala; sisters, Judy Dudley and Helen (Joe) Massoglia; brother, Richard Rajala; and brother-in-law, Harley Anderson.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 7, at 11 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood. The Rev Kurt Kovanen will officiate.
Lorraine's family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday.
Summer inurnment will be in the Riverside Cemetery.
