WAUSAU, Wis. - Thomas Emil Lauzon, 86, of Ironwood, Mich., passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau.
He was born in Ironwood on March 10, 1927, son of the late Joseph and Zella Lauzon. He attended Catholic schools in Ironwood and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945, serving in the Seabees in the South Pacific until the end of World War II. Upon returning to Ironwood, his working career included jobs at Northern Bakery, Walter Meyers Sausage Co., Carlson's Super Market and MFC First National Bank/Wells Fargo.
On April 11, 1959, Thomas married Myrna Bertoluzza of Hurley. She survives. They were blessed with a life of faith, five children, 14 grandchildren and 54 years of marriage. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood.
Along with his wife, Thomas is survived by children, Joseph, Ironwood, Claude (Dong), Beijing, China, Mary (Tom) Buchko, Louis (Heather) and Gerard (Heidi), all of Ironwood; grandchildren, Nicholas Lauzon, Ironwood, Francesca Buchko, Minneapolis, Felicia Buchko, Seattle, Anthony Buchko, Anna Marie Buchko, Matthew Buchko and Martina Buchko, all of Ironwood, Mercedes Lauzon, Normal, Ill., Allison Lauzon, Rockford, Ill., and Lucia Lauzon, Jacinta Lauzon, Sarah Lauzon and stepgrandson, Ethan Puisto, all of Ironwood; five siblings, Joan (Gabe) Bennetts, Traverse City, Mich., Gertrude Sullivan, Wausau, Donna Sullivan and Sybil (Joe) Giorgianni, both of Marquette, Mich., and John (Luise), Montreal; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Lauzon, Ocala, Fla., Marguerite Pavlovich, Poplar, and Priscilla Kimball, Mercer; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by a grandson, Steve; and a brother, Joseph Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 15, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation in the St. Joseph Family Room at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Robb Jurkovich, celebrant.
A flag presentation ceremony will be conducted by members of the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard.
Luncheon will follow in the parish hall.
Rite of Committal and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, in the spring.
