MARENISCO - The Marenisco Township Police Department is warning of "increasingly dangerous" conditions on Lake Gogebic.
MTPD rescue units, along with the Lake Gogebic Fire Department and Marenisco EMS, have conducted several retrievals of vehicles stuck in deep slush on the lake.
The rescues have occurred in areas 500 yards or more off shore and out toward the middle of the lake.
Areas of slush up to 3 feet deep exist under a light snow cover. Snowmobiles operating in the areas are subject to "bogging down" and becoming stuck in the slush.
It is a dangerous situation for both the individuals stuck on the lake and the rescue units coming to their aid, police said.
Police advise residents to stay close to the shoreline and on well-traveled routes. Residents are also asked to refrain from attempting to travel across the lake, or operate farther than 200 yards from shore.
