IRONWOOD, Mich. - Susan Carol "Susie" Slade, 69, of Lake Road, Ironwood Township, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood, after battling chronic pulmonary fibrosis.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 52 years, Richard "Dick"; a brother, Raymond (Olive) Niemi; three sisters, Ida Lindberg, Nelmi Martinson and Florence (Gene) Thomas; her five children, Joanne (David) Zosel, Samuel (Christine) Slade, Wendy (Ted) Rauch, Susan (Matthew) Clausen, and Spencer (Britt) Slade; eleven grandchildren, Jaclyn, Tyler, Andrew, Samantha, Colin, Alexander, Vanessa, Nicholas, Madison, Maxwell, Eli, and soon-to-be grand baby 12; and her faithful Westie, Teddy. Her parents, Mary and Richard Niemi., both preceded her in death.
Susie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She loved to sew, craft, read, can, garden, and spend time with her children and grandchildren playing board games and going out to Lake Superior. She also liked to travel. Susie and Dickie visited almost every state in the United States and went to Las Vegas together every year for 20 years. In her younger days, she was an avid 4-H leader and attended every event her children participated in, sometimes going to the far reaches of the U.P. to do so. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Finnish American Dance Group, and a bleacher fan to all of her grandchildren.
Susan's funeral service will take place on Tuesday, May 27, at 2 p.m., preceded by visitation at 1 p.m., at Wesley United Methodist Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Rosemary DeHut officiating.
