ASHLAND, Wis. — Stefania Kochajkiewicz, 88, of Martha Lake Road, Mercer, died Saturday, May 31, 2014 in Ashland. She was born June 1, 1925 in Chernow, Poland, daughter of the late Marion and Harriet (Grabawska) Zachkiewicz.
Stefania attended schools in Poland and worked in the camps in Germany. On June 6, 1945 she was married to Stanislaw Kochajkiewicz in Augsburg, Germany. They moved to Chicago in March of 1951, where Stafania was employed at Jay’s Potato Chips for 23 years until retirement. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, dancing and gardening. In the summer of 1985 Stefania and Stanley moved to Mercer. They were members of St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church.
Stanley preceded her in death on March 31, 2009.
Stefania is survived by two sons; Ted, Chicago, Ill., and Jessie, Mercer; a daughter, Harriet Wacura of Gold Canyon, Ariz .; five grandchildren, Matthew, Chris, Therese, Nicole and Michele; three great-grandchildren, Brianna, Cody and Addison.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Stanley and Mike.
A Graveside Funeral Service with Rite of Committal will be held at the Mercer Cemetery on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 9 a.m. Father Ronald Serrao of St Isaac Jogues Catholic Church will officiate.
Range Funeral Service Inc., Ketola-Burla Funeral Home and Frick-Zielinski Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
