IRONWOOD - The Friends of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park held a cookout in honor of National Trails Day at the Lorenson Baseball Field Saturday.
The event was scheduled to include guided hikes and geocaching. However, these activities were rescheduled for Sunday due to weather.
"This was all inspired by Bruce Currin," said Monie Shackleford, president of Friends of the MMHP. "We're raising funds for a bench in his memory."
Around 20 attended the event. "Weather is such a big factor," Shackleford said.
Upcoming events include "Art in the Park" on June 21.
Organizers encouraged local artists to send in their pieces to be displayed around the mile-long Aurora Loop. According to the FMMHP website, installation of the artists' pieces will begin on June 21, and remain on display through July 26. Prizes will be awarded based on public votes.
"We're always looking for new members and volunteers," Shackleford said.
