HURLEY, Wis. — Faye A. Pertile, 82, of Hurley, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at home.
She was born April 19, 1932, in Ironwood, Mich., daughter of the late Pete and Pearl (Pumala) Pertile. Faye attended Ironwood schools, graduating from Luther L. Wright High School with the class of 1950.
In 1953, she received her registered nurse diploma from the Evanston Hospital School of Nursing in Evanston, Ill. Over her career as a nurse, she worked at the Evanston Hospital, the University of Michigan Medicine Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., and St. Joseph Mercer Hospital in Ann Arbor.
In 1970, she returned to college and graduated from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich., in 1973 with a bachelor of science in social work. As a social worker, she worked at the Wausau Hospital in Wausau, at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff, at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, and at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, Mich. She retired from her social work career while employed at Gogebic Community Mental Health in Wakefield, Mich.
Faye enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews and their children. She also enjoyed skiing, swimming, walking, music, theater and art.
Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, painting and reading.
Faye is survived by one brother, Peter (Alice) Pertile, of Pine Lake; two nephews, Mark (Anne) Pertile, of Kronenwetter, and Mike (Jan) Pertile, of Buffalo, Wyo .; two nieces, Maria (Chad) Dummermuth, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Vicki (Tom) Gordon, of Rio Rancho, N.M .; and one sister-in-law, Violet Pertile, of Rio Rancho.
In addition to her parents, Faye was preceded in death by her brother, Rodney Pertile.
Cremation has taken place at the Range Crematory in Hurley.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood. The Rev. Kurt Kovanen will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. preceding the service at the church.
