Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
More than 40 horses shown during event
IRONWOOD - Local horse enthusiasts competed in the Spring Valley Ranch Horsemen's Club Horse Show over the weekend.
This year marked the fifth annual event, which was held at the Gogebic County Fairgrounds in Ironwood.
More than 40 horses were shown in the event on Saturday and Sunday.
Competitions included showmanship, English riding, western riding, jumping classes, speed events and reigning classes.
According to event organizer Doreen Passuello, the show is a fundraiser for the horse club.
"Its purpose is to send our members to the Quarter Horse Congress in Ohio."
The event is popular each year, and Passuello said the show had a growth of 40 percent from last year.
In addition to riding, club members also paid homage to Flag Day on Saturday.
For Passuello, the show is more than just the club.
"It's somewhat of a community effort," she said.
