Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
To the Editor:
The Hurley School District has finished up another successful year. We have graduated another talented group of young men and women. We look forward to seeing our next group cross the stage in 2015.
At this time of year I think it’s appropriate to look back and reflect on all that goes on within our four walls here and in our community. I see a student body that has historically been the benefactor of a great school board, staff and a great community that has surrounded us and supported us.
Hurley has a school board that’s willing to take a chance on new initiatives to help students succeed. They’ve had to make some very tough decisions to ensure our students get what they need. They’ve also been pioneers in different areas, taking us to a level of education not many schools can provide. How fortunate for our students to have this type of leadership.
The staff in Hurley consistently goes above and beyond for our students. They expect a lot of their students daily, and I believe that shows in what Hurley students achieve once they leave here.
Our teachers and all the staff serve many roles to the students who walk our halls. They are teachers, mentors, counselors, advisors, nurses, mothers, fathers, bosses — the list could go on. Ultimately, at the end of the day, our students find people here who care and follow them as they grow up. There’s a great deal of pride for the students of Hurley.
Without our community support, our students would not get what they need here. The Hurley community should be commended for the support and assistance it gives our school. We have been so fortunate to have so many people and organizations helping us in so many ways, year after year.
The Hurley community keeps working together on many fronts. Positive relationships have allowed this community to grow. These relationships carry over to the school and provide us with an opportunity to grow as well. Take a look at our community. There are so many positive things going on that keep us moving forward.
A school can only be as strong as the community that supports it. I would just like to thank everyone in the Hurley community and surrounding communities for believing in our students and in us. We will keep working to become better. We owe you that!
