MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - W. James "Jim" Erickson, 88, of Manitowish Waters, Wis., passed away Monday, June 16, 2014, at University of Minnesota-Fairview Hospital, Minneapolis.
Jim was born May 18, 1926, in Bessemer, Mich., the son of Harold and Ellen Erickson. At age 9, he moved with his parents to Ironwood, Mich. There he attended grade school and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1944. He then joined the U.S. Navy and was discharged in 1947. He graduated from Gogebic Junior College and General Motors Institute.
Jim married Glorian Rummel, of Ironwood, in 1952. He was employed by Point Motors and then joined the GMC Truck Division of General Motors. Upon retirement, Jim built a home on Spider Lake in Manitowish Waters. It was there his wife, Glorian, passed away.
In 1997, Jim married Helen Schmitt, of Manitowish Waters, and they lived on Alder Lake, spending their time enjoying the Northwoods. Jim loved hunting, fishing, golfing and playing bridge. He was an avid reader and was a volunteer at Koller Library, and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, James (Julie) Erickson and Christopher (Peggy) Erickson; one daughter, Leslie Erickson; two stepchildren, Mary Falk and John (Shelby) Schmitt; one granddaughter, Analese Erickson; two sisters, Doris (Carl) Sauter and Jean Mrdjenovich; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Jack Erickson.
Upon his wishes, cremation took place and no services will be held.
