IRONWOOD, Mich. — Elvira Catherine (Moro) Ryan passed away June 19, 2014, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital from complications associated with pneumonia. A loving wife and mother, she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Vera was born on Nov. 26, 1928, and was raised in Bessemer, the daughter of Victor and Mary Moro. She graduated from A.D. Johnston High School.
After marrying John “Jack” Ryan, she moved first to Indiana while Jack attended college at Purdue, and then to the Chicago area, where they raised their children. While living in Illinois, Vera worked for more than 25 years at Ben Franklin. Upon Jack’s retirement, they moved back to Ironwood.
Vera was preceded in passing by her husband, Jack; and children, Marie and Maretta.
She is survived by her sisters, Vi and Fran; as well as three of her children, Pat (Diane) Ryan, Kathy (Alan Progar) and David Ryan; 12 grandchildren, Patrick and Juliette (from Pat), Teresa and Robin (from Kathy), Michelle, Matthew, Michael, Melissa and Kristy (from David), and April, B-Jay and Eric Cory (from Marie). She is also survived by 10 great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Women’s American Legion Auxiliary and a parishioner at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood.
A memorial will be held at Pat’s home at 322 Bonnie St., Ironwood, on Sunday, July 6, at 1 p.m. All friends and relatives are welcome. A luncheon will be served.
