ALMA, Mich. - Saima Liimakka, 104, of Alma, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Masonic Pathways in Alma.
She was born on May 7, 1910, in Ironwood, the daughter of Jacob and Liisa (Jaaska) Niemi. She was a graduate of Northern Michigan University and on June 21, 1939, she married Arnold Liimakka. Saima taught fifth grade in the Ironwood school system for 32 years. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood.
Saima is survived by her two children, Sandy Pardue, of Florida, and Arne (Sharlene) Liimakka, of Ithaca; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Jose) Melero, of Holly, and Gretchen (Tony) Ramon, of Alma; and three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Melero, Macy Melero and Gabrielle Ramon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold; and siblings, Bill, Tom, Arvo, Jennie, Ethel and Allie.
Services in Ironwood will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood.
