Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
HURLEY - Local residents are encouraged to express what they find to be "fun" in Iron County with a float during the annual Iron County Heritage Festival parade.
The parade will be July 26 through downtown Hurley, and this year's theme is "All Season Iron County Fun."
"This theme is for us to see how creative people can be," Dorrene O'Donnell, executive director of the Hurley Area Chamber of Commerce, said. "What can you think of as fun in Iron County."
The parade starts at 2 p.m., with line-up at 1 p.m.
According to O'Donnell, she would like people to register their floats by July 23. Floats can be registered at the Hurley or Mercer chamber offices. There is no fee to register, and the winners of specific categories will receive cash prizes.
Categories for this year's parade include best all season Iron County fun, most impressive rig, chamber member, all school reunion class and youth.
"With our parade theme being as it is, it gives people a chance to be creative," O'Donnell said.
Whether on a float, or on the sidewalk, O'Donnell said she hopes people will attend the annual event.
"The fun part is, you never know what is going to happen," she said. "Come on out and see."
