MONTREAL, Wis. — Margaret H. Gulan, 89, of Montreal, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 24, 2014, in her home.
The former Margaret Tarro was born May 6, 1925, in Montreal, daughter of the late Battista and Maria (Picholdi) Tarro, attended grade school there, and graduated from Lincoln High School in Hurley in 1943. She worked in Detroit and Milwaukee during World War II, and was employed as a bookkeeper/cashier for the Lake Superior District Power Co. in Ironwood, Mich., from 1947 until her retirement in 1988.
She was married to Albin P. Gulan on June 18, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montreal, by the late Rev. Kolman. Albin preceded her in death on Aug 23, 2006.
Margaret was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hurley and lifelong member of the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montreal and its Altar Society. She was also a member of the Iron County Senior Citizens Board of Directors.
Surviving are her son, Dennis “Deno” (Shyanne), Pence; grandson, Shane Gulan (Tanya), Superior; nephews, David Mladenoff, Kenneth Borca and Brian Tarro; and nieces, Sandra (Randy) Gascoigne, Jean (James) Ninefeldt, Ginger (Tom) Jones, Kathleen Sullivan, Nancy (J.J.) Murphy and Sharon (John) Styba.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, John and Lewis Tarro; three sisters, Phyllis DeLodder, Mayme Sullivan and Mary Mladenoff; a niece, Marianne Widhammer; and nephew, James Tarro.
Per Margaret’s wishes, cremation took place.
Private family services were held, followed by Rite of Committal and inurnment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hurley.
