Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
BESSEMER - Marty's Goldenaires Drum and Bugle Corps held its annual fundraising picnic at Bluff Valley Park Saturday.
"The corps started in 1950," said assistant musical director Dustin Pitrone, "And we've been having our picnic every year, consecutively, since 1980."
The event was open to the public, free of charge.
Activities included kids' games and face painting, a bake sale, raffles, live music, concessions and a cookout.
"We hold this event to support us functioning as an organization," Pitrone said,"It helps us buy uniforms, new equipment and handle other expenses."
"It's the only fundraiser we do during the year," he added.
Performances included polka music throughout the afternoon. The Lowell Street Band played in the evening, with a performance by Marty's during the band's first break from the stage.
Marty's performance season runs from May until Labor Day weekend.
Upcoming performances include Festival Italiano on Saturday and the Ontonagon Labor Festival on Sunday.
"We really appreciate everyone coming out and supporting us," Pitrone said.
