ASHLAND, Wis. - Marie M. Erickson, 97, of Ironwood, Mich., died Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland.
Marie was born Nov. 30, 1916, in Ironwood, daughter of the late John and Mary (Sentko) Vronch. She attended schools in Ironwood and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1937.
She was united in marriage to Herbert Erickson on Nov. 9, 1939, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood. Herb preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 1991.
Marie was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. She was a great mother and grandmother and enjoyed visiting with family, grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed going to church, playing cards, bingo, going to the casino, and watching Packer games. Marie had a great sense of humor and will be dearly missed .
Surviving are a son, Ron (Carole), Ironwood Township; two daughters, Delores (Bob) Vittone, Kimball, and Mary (Perry) LaSart, Mountain Iron, Minn .; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Veronica Skolasinski, Wakefield, Mich .; son-in-law, Leland Omdahl, Aurora, Minn .; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Omdahl; grandson, Jon Erickson; brothers, Andrew, John, Isadore and Ben Vronch; and sisters, Agnes Hiekkanen and Celia DeMario.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation in the St. Joseph Family Room at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Robb Jurkovich, celebrant.
Rite of Committal and interment will follow in Sunset Acres Cemetery, Ironwood Township.
Luncheon will be served at the Elk & Hound on Country Club Road in Ironwood immediately upon return from the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Steven Chiapuzio, Andrew, Greg and Gary Vittone, Lee Omdahl, Joel Erickson, Mike Vronch and Perry LaSart.
