Leslie R. Raisanen

BERGLAND, Mich. — Leslie R. Raisanen, 82, of Bergland, passed away at his home on Sept. 1, 2014.

He was born Feb. 10, 1932, in Palmer, to Karl and Hilja (Hyvvonen) Raisanen. He graduated from Negaunee High School in 1951. In 1959, he began working at White Pine Copper Company, where he remained until his retirement. He married Bertha “Betty” Elizabeth Torro, of Tapiola, in August 1952.

Leslie had a passion for fishing. Other interests included trapping, hunting and playing Bingo. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He is survived by daughters, Nancy Young, of Ontonagon, Judith (Ray) Sandy and Patricia (Larry) Bowman, both of Mass City; sons, Robert (Heidi) Raisanen, of DePere, Wis., and Dale (Susan) Raisanen, of Menominee; brothers, Carl Raisanen, of Mass City, Theodore Raisanen, of Bruce Crossing, and Frank Raisanen, of Palmer; grandchildren, Quentin (Sarah) Store, of Seymour, Wis., Valarie (Barry) Butrymowiecz, of Mountain, Wis., Brian Sandy and Betty Jo Sandy, both of Mass City, April (Kip) Seid, of Menominee, Teri (Matt) Connor, of Pineville, N.C., and Meagan (Paul) Raisanen and Adam (Shurie) Raisanen, both of DePere; and three great-grandchildren. Leslie is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; and grandson, David Store.

In accordance with Leslie’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
