IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP - Three Lakes came back from an early 2-0 deficit to force overtime and beat Ironwood 5-3.
It wasn't sudden death as Three Lakes scored once in each overtime.
Ironwood coach Don Cvengros said it was a tough game to lose, but it was the best game his team has played this year.
"We got tired," he said.
Ironwood scored the first two goals.
"We started off really well," Cvengros said. "I was extremely pleased with the boys. They were ready to go tonight. They were fired up. They wanted to play."
Riley Jarocki scored the first goal, about 10 minutes in, unassisted. He faked out a couple of defenders and shot it in off his left foot.
"He's a natural righty, but he's just as good with his left," Cvengros said.
At the 30-minute mark, Jarocki sent the ball to Isaac Aukee, who beat the goalkeeper low in the corner.
Three Lakes tied it before the half. Ironwood took a 3-2 lead as Aukee sent a pass to Luke Hewitt, who scored in the low corner.
"Luke usually shoots high," Cvengros said.
Three Lakes tied it to force OT. Ironwood goalkeeper Josh Joki made a really nice diving save to his left, but Three Lakes scored on the rebound to pull ahead 4-3 in the first overtime.
"I thought it was a major improvement, although we do have a long way to go yet," Cvengros said. "Three Lakes is a pretty darn good team."
Ironwood (1-4) hosts Washburn Tuesday and Phillips Thursday.
