Mercer Lions honor members during award ceremony

MERCER, Wis. - The Mercer Lions Club held their annual awards dinner Sept. 11. Twenty-two members were awarded attendance awards.

Lion District Governor Marla Suckow presented membership longevity chevrons to Lions Jerry Alexander and Archie Johnson for 10 years; Lions Gene Hickey, Joan Wainio and Sulo Wainio for 15 years and Lion Bob Downing for 30 years. Lion President Sulo Wainio presented Lions Max Ackerman, Michael Chamberlain, William Altman and Robert Downing chairmanship awards for their outstanding leadership in planning, coordinating and running several Mercer Lions Club events during the past year.

"The Mercer Lions Club could not be as successful as it has been without the fantastic support it receives from the local businesses, and all the members of Mercer Lions Club would like to thank all the business that have supported us in the past and in the future," said club member Sulo Wainio.

The final award of the night was for the Mercer Lion of the Year, given to one outstanding Lion who has devoted himself or herself to the true beliefs of Lionism and surpassed all other Lions by his or her devotion to service to their community and club. This year the Mercer Lions selected Louise and Dave Minisan as Lions of the Year for their outstanding devotion to Lionism.
