Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
WAKEFIELD - Wakefield-Marenisco never let Watersmeet get to double digits in a Porcupine Mountain Conference volleyball sweep, 25-7, 25-7, 25-9, Monday.
"Our main goals coming off of the Mercer game (a 3-0 Mercer win last week), was working on consistency in our attacks at the net," W-M coach Jessica Novascone said. "That's what they were really focusing on tonight. We really had very few attack errors. That was our main goal, staying out of the net, not hitting into the net. They really accomplished that."
The Cardinals also worked on better communication, including calling the ball louder and talking, she said.
"They came out fired up right from the start, which is awesome to see because they've come out cold and then get fired up," Novascone said.
Lauren Grace led W-M with 15 kills and 11 aces. Hallee Yon had four kills and five aces. Kassidee Yon tallied 23 assists and two aces.
"The Watersmeet girls were really struggling for motivation tonight," Watersmeet coach Angie Brownell said. "We are going to be stressing teamwork and moving, moving, moving over the next few days. It's definitely not too late to get fired up and get back in these games."
Watersmeet goes to Phelps Friday at 5 p.m.
W-M (6-1, 3-0) has now beaten all three PMC teams in the first run through the schedule. The Cardinals host Ontonagon tonight with the JV game at 5 p.m.
