HURLEY, Wis. - Ralph Edward "Dash" Dashner, 68, of Hurley, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born March 20, 1946, in Hayward, the son of Viola Dashner Neveaux.
Ralph attended schools in Odanah and Ashland. He served three years during the Vietnam War in the U.S Army and retired as Senior Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force in 1984. Following his retirement from the military, Ralph continued his schooling at Northland College in Ashland where he received a bachelor's degree in organization management.
Ralph married Marja Zander on March 15, 1966, in Haarlem, Holland. The couple moved to Hurley after Ralph's retirement from the Air Force. Ralph began working for Northland College in Ashland and was instrumental in helping students in the Upward Bound Program. Ralph most recently worked for the Bad River Natural Resources Department until his retirement in 2008.
Ralph was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Hurley and the Bad River Tribe. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, smoking fish and riding his Harley over to see his friends and family. During his childhood he loved being with his grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, Marja Dashner; daughter, Barbara (Randy) Lundberg; son, Paul (Danette) Dashner; mother, Viola Dashner Neveaux; granddaughter, Lindsey Dashner; sisters, Karen Neveaux, Denise Neveaux, Jeanette Neveaux and Diane Neveaux; brother, Paul (Kara) Neveaux; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edwin and Agnes Dashner.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Odanah with Fr. Paul Pare, OFM officiating. A reception will follow at the Bad River Community Center in Odanah.
Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, at Frost Home for Funerals in Ashland and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. A prayer service and military honors will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
