IRONWOOD, Mich. - James M. Frederickson, 64, of Ironwood, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, at home, following a five-year battle with cancer.
He was born June 5, 1950, in Manistique, son of the late Marvin and Violet (Feldt) Frederickson, and graduated from Manistique High School in 1969. He then attended Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant for four years.
Jim was employed as district representative for GMAC Financing in Northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan and for many years as a loan officer for ITT Financial. Moving to Ironwood in 1987, he worked as a loan officer for First of America Bank, then held various other jobs until retiring due to ill health in 2009.
He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, where he served on the parish council and as an usher and Extraordinary Minister. He was a 10-year volunteer and current president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Ironwood, and was involved with Relay for Life in the area for a number of years. Golf was Jim's passion, and he also loved music, having played in numerous bands over the years. He was a big Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Flyers fan.
On July 23, 1977, Jim was married to the former Julie Heirman at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Escanaba by the late Rev. Breytel. Julie survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jeffrey (Kari), and Jeremy, both of Grand Rapids; two grandchildren, Hunter and Holden; two sisters, Sharon (Jim) McIntyre, Wausau, Wis., and Lori (Gary) VandenHouten, Beaver Dam, Wis .; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Kris Heirman, Kingsford, Tom and Debbie Heirman, Flat Rock, and Ann Marie Heirman and Jayne and Dale Kwarchiany, all of Escanaba; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Vieno Heirman; and sister-in-law, Mary Hierman.
Per Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at noon, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Robb Jurkovich, celebrant.
Luncheon will follow in the parish hall.
Relatives and friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church from 11 a.m. until noon on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 108 S. Marquette St., Ironwood, MI 49938.
