WAUSAU, Wis. - Shirley Mae Erickson, 79, a long-time resident of the Bessemer area, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born July 29, 1935, to the late Ed and Helmi (Maki) Kujala in Ironwood.
Shirley graduated from Luther L. Wright High School and was a lifelong resident of the Bessemer/Ironwood area.
On Aug.7, 1954, Shirley married Floyd Peter Erickson in Ironwood.
Shirley retired from working at Josephson's nursing home after many years.
Shirley loved dancing, camping, traveling, cooking, playing bingo, spending time with family and friends and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. She also had passion for animals and she loved her cat (Jack) dearly.
She leaves her husband of 60 years, Floyd Peter Erickson; daughters, Cindy Milton and Robin Mowitt; a son, Mark Erickson; son-in-laws, Dean Milton and Chuck Mowitt; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Erickson; a sister-in-law, Esther Maki; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and close friends who she enjoyed playing bingo with.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Richard Kujala and Richard Maki.
At Shirley's request there will not be a funeral service, however there will be a small gathering of family and close friends on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the home of Esther Maki, 5299 W. Norrie Park Road, in Ironwood.
