Homemakers raise money for Iron County 4-H

The Kimball Homemakers have been active for about 40 years.

KIMBALL, Wis. - The Kimball Homemakers held a craft show Saturday, at the Kimball Community Center to raise money for the Iron County 4-H.

According to Mary Smith, Kimball Homemaker, the craft show will become a yearly event with the purpose of raising money for 4-H.

"The proceeds from the table rentals the crafters paid goes to the Iron County 4-H for camperships for attendees. Last year 75 children were able to attend the week-long camp." Smith said.

The community center offered table space to 7 crafters Saturday morning, with goods ranging from scarves and mittens to jewelry and towels.

One table was for the 4-H kids who held a bake sale during the craft show as another way to raise money for 4-H activities.

The Kimball Homemakers have been active for about 40 years and help with many events to benefit the local community.

The Homemakers build fruit baskets every December for the elderly residents of Kimball as well as participate in arranging Santa visits to Kimball children.

"In January we help the Kimball Volunteer Fire Department with its annual turkey feed by cooking and serving. And in April we have Annual Pie Social, which is the only fundraiser specifically for the Homemakers." Smith said.

Along with the baskets, Santa, pie and turkey the Homemakers are active in supporting local charities that benefit families in need as well as donating directly to families in dire circumstances.

"We are always looking for more members, you don't need to live in Kimball either, you can be from Iron or Gogebic counties." Smith said.

"Members meet the third Wednesday of every month at 1 p.m., at the Kimball Community Center and you don't have to attend meetings to be a member."
