MINOCQUA, Wis. — Doris L Thompson, age 88, of Hurley, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, in Minocqua.
She was born Dec. 30, 1925, in Ironwood, daughter of the late James and Clara (Guck) Jenkin.
Doris worked in area restaurants and catered. She also worked for the Hurley Senior Center.
On April 10, 1948, she was united in marriage with Tom T. Thompson at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood by Father Moriarty.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood. In her later years, she loved her card games and bingo.
She is survived by her husband, Tom, of Oma; one son, Bill (Linda) Thompson, Hurley; two daughters, Clara (Bruce) Maki, Oma, and Kim (Dan) Paris, Gile; seven grandchildren, Tom, Jason and Brady Thompson, Lana Maki, Bryce Paris, and Kyle and Brian Thompson; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Amelia Cassidy, LaCrosse; and “the boys,” her two dogs, K.C. and Tippy.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by two sons, Fred Thompson in 1984 and David Thompson in 1994; five sisters; and two brothers.
Cremation has taken place at the Range Crematory in Hurley. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Ketola-Burla Funeral Home in Ironwood. Rev. Kurt Kovanen will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Spring inurnment will be in the Hurley Cemetery.
