The trip to the Shiras Planetarium has taken place each year since the first trip was undertaken in the fall of 1977. A stop was added at the Michigan Iron Industry Museum in Negaunee, when it first opened in the mid-1980s. A photo op at the 28.2 ton slab of float copper displayed at Presque Isle Park only goes back six years and is the most recent addition to the itinerary.
