Wakefield - The VFW Auxiliary Post 9084 held its annual fall craft fair Saturday in Wakefield. Participation was up this year with 43 vendor tables and spaces as well as several activities for kids.
There was a fishpond for kids to fish out a prize as well as a face-painting booth. An auxiliary spokeswoman said the members of Post 9084 worked hard this year to bring these little extras to Saturday's event and their hard work paid off, with lots of kids showing up and enjoying the fun.
The craft vendors offered a little bit everything: winter accessories like hats and mittens, Christmas decorations and gifts, jewelry, skin care products and cosmetics, homemade jams, jellies, baked goods and gourmet pickles, cutting boards and pet accessories.
In past years, the fair typically saw a turnout of around 25 vendors.
The auxiliary members also sold barbeque lunches, desserts and coffee through the day, and ran a raffle. The vendors donated all the raffle prizes.
Carole Lillar, president of the Auxiliary Post 9084, said the money raised will be used to support local events and assist local veterans. Some of the events they help support include Relay For Life, Special Olympics, cancer funds and the Polar Plunge. They also give local veterans gifts for Christmas.
Lillar hopes the event will be even bigger in future years. The auxiliary hosts the craft fair every year on the opening weekend of Michigan's deer hunting season.
