WAUSAU, Wis. — William H. Strelcheck, age 85, of Bessemer, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, in Wausau. He was born June 28, 1929, in Bessemer, son of the late Peter and Mabel (Bloomquist) Strelcheck.
Bill attended Bessemer schools, graduating from A.D. Johnston High School with the class of 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on Dec. 16, 1954. He was a member of the Bessemer American Legion.
Bill had been employed for the Peterson Mine for 15 years, and for Copper Range in White Pine, Mich., for 25 years.
Bill greatest joy was spending time with his family at “the camp.”
On Aug. 27, 1955, he was united in marriage with Mary Grasso at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montreal, Wis. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Gary (Diane) of Olathe, Kan., and Randy (Jennifer) of Kingsford, Mich .; a daughter, Diane (Kevin) McIlhon of Clive, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Kari, Katie, Joe, Kevin, Melissa, Molly and Emma; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Fran (Gloria) of Bessemer; and many nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and James.
Cremation has taken place at the Range Crematory in Hurley. A family service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer.
