Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
IRONWOOD - "We hear a lot about what's going wrong in the world. This is about what's going right," guest conductor Pamela Bustos said Friday in welcoming people to a musical honors concert at the Historic Ironwood Theatre.
Dr. Bustos is director of bands and professor of instrumental music at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
She has been at UWS for 12 years and has studied with prominent conductors throughout the United States.
Steve Boyd, Ironwood band director, told the audience the 63 students who performed in the Gogebic Range High School Honors Band evening concert got together for the first time to practice on Friday morning. He said their performance was a testament to the musical abilities of the area students.
Participating schools for the second annual honors concert were Bessemer, Ewen-Trout Creek, Hurley, Ontonagon and Wakefield-Marenisco, in addition to Ironwood.
