IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Wilma J. Cigallio, 88, of Mountain View Road, Ironwood Township, died peacefully on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, in Wakefield.
She was born March 13, 1926, in Ironwood, daughter of the late William "Bill" and Inez (Jarvi) Korpela.
Wilma graduated from the Luther L. Wright High School with the class of 1944. After graduation, she was employed by the U.S. Air Force in Cleveland, Ohio. Locally, Wilma worked for Dr. Sam Albert as a secretary. At Gogebic Community College, she was secretary for the Dean of Academics and the Dean of Instruction. Wilma also was manager of the bookstore.
She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and a member of the Ministry of Care team. She embraced the Catholic faith with love, and had a deep devotion to the Mother of God.
Wilma was an avid bridge player, enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening. She also enjoyed bowling and golf. She especially enjoyed traveling, outings with family, preparing for parties and making friends.
On Feb. 7, 1948, she was united in marriage to Rudolph "Rudy" A. Cigallio at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood. Rudy preceded her in death on July 3, 2013.
She is survived by two daughters, Patrice (George) Wesa, of Ironwood Township, and Rebecca (John) Koivisto, of McDonough, Ga .; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Wilma was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and Perry; and a brother, Donald.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. The Rev. Robb Jurkovich will be the celebrant.
Wilma's family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass in the St. Joseph's Family Room.
A luncheon will follow at Tacconelli's.
Spring Burial will be in the Sunset Acres Cemetery in Ironwood Township.
Range Funeral Service and Crematory and the Ketola-Burla Funeral Home of Ironwood and Hurley has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
