IRONWOOD - A Tuesday morning raid of a residence in Ironwood's Norrie Location led to five people being taken away in handcuffs in a bust involving heroin and other drugs.
The Gogebic-Iron Area Narcotics Team raid at 251 Oak St. occurred around 8 a.m. Interviews were continuing into the afternoon at the Ironwood Public Safety Department office.
According to a GIANT press release, a search warrant was executed and three men and two women were arrested. They were incarcerated in the Gogebic County Jail at Bessemer for drug violations, including, but not limited to, delivery of heroin, according to the release.
Participating in the GIANT raid were the IPSD, Michigan State Police, Gogebic County Sheriff's Department, Hurley Police Department, MSP canine unit and members of the area SWAT team.
A neighbor told the Daily Globe she had complained about drug activities at the house over the past two years. She said she recognized the five people who were handcuffed, some by their first names, and taken away from the scene. She said she hoped the neighborhood would be cleaned up of drug dealing.
The names of those arrested will be released after they are arraigned in Gogebic County District Court.
The GIANT team is comprised of law enforcement officers from Gogebic Range departments.
The IPSD has been dealing with increased reports of heroin activity in the past year and there were two drug overdoses in the city in successive days earlier this year.
