Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
IRONWOOD - Congregation and community members gathered at Wesley United Methodist Church in Ironwood on Wednesday night for a "Christmas Love" dinner.
Pastor Rosemary DeHut said they hold this event each year, and this year, they served ten families from local communities.
Before the meal, DeHut said a prayer and thanked everyone for coming. "Bless this food, this fellowship, and this night," she said.
During dinner, classic Christmas tunes were performed by Dale and Roberta Goman, along with their children Kay Goman and Tim Goman. Joe DeHut also sang and played guitar with the family quartet.
Pastor DeHut said the congregation donates and makes the food for the event, as well as purchases gifts for all the kids.
"The kids filled out slips with three things they wanted," Pastor DeHut said. Then, congregation and community members purchased one or more of the three options listed, and returned them with the childs slip, she said.
Church member Gary Harrington said he knew many of the families were happy to be there.
After dinner, Santa Claus showed up to hand out presents to all the children in attendance. Each family was also given a Christmas dinner box, including a turkey with all the fixings, Pastor DeHut said.
Pastor DeHut said the event was called "Christmas Love" because that is what this time of year is all about.
