WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Elaine L. Sippola, 86, a longtime Bessemer Township resident, died in her sleep on Dec. 22, 2014, in Wakefield, shortly after a wonderful visit with her children and their spouses.
She was born June 29, 1928, the daughter of the late William and Ida (Pohjola) Mikkola.
Elaine was a graduate of the A.D. Johnston High School class of 1946.
On Aug. 27, 1949, she married Arthur B. Sippola, who preceded her in death on July 10, 1997.
For many years, Elaine and Art owned and operated a dairy and beef cattle farm in South Bessemer. She was a homemaker, talented seamstress and lover of reading and working puzzles.
She is survived by her two children, her daughter, Trudi (Felice Tilin) Sippola, of Penn Valley, Pa., and her son, Todd (Joye) Sippola, of South Bessemer; a grandson, Rob (Beth) Sippola, of Newark, Del .; her sister, Joyce Richey and her children including a niece, Chloette (Dan) Laviolette, two nephews, Kris (Tamie) Richey and ChaDee (Melissa) Richey, of Tillamook, Ore .; the children of her late sister Betty Love, previously of California, including two nieces, Jolayne, of California, and Julie Love, of Montana, and a nephew, John Love, of California; and numerous cousins, Carol (Ray) Pesola, of Minnesota, Roy Pohjola (Marge), of Wakefield, Carl Pohjola, of Anchorage, Alaska and their children
A memorial service followed by burial in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer will be held in the spring, to be announced at a future date. Memorials may be sent to the Gogebic Medical Care Facility activity fund. The family would like to thank the staff of GMCF for their fine care during the past year.
