Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
IRONWOOD - The Gogebic Community College board held its reorganizational meeting on Tuesday night and swore in three returning members.
Robert Burchell, Thomas Brown and John Lupino were led in the administration oath of office by Linda Gustafson, administrative assistant to the president.
In the election of officers, John Lupino was unanimously chosen to continue as the board chairman.
Bill Malloy was selected as the vice chairman, and Susan Beals was again chosen to be the secretary. Thomas Brown will serve as the board treasurer.
In financial matters, there were some adjustments from last year, but nothing to make a huge difference, said dean of business services Erik Guenard.
Brown attributed the fairly stable budget to a "relatively strong" enrollment at GCC.
According to President Jim Lorenson, GCC was one of the only colleges who had increases in enrollment recently. But overall, "enrollments in community colleges in Michigan are down," he said.
In other business, the board:
Adopted a resolution to hold the regular board meetings at 4:30 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month for 2015 and 2016, except for the December meetings which will fall on Dec. 15, 2015, and Dec. 20, 2016.
Approved the on- and off-campus adjunct faculty courses and payroll for the Spring 2015 semester.
Heard information about legislative decisions that are significant to the college from President Lorenson.
The next regular meeting of the board is on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
